Funding for domestic violence victims in Red Deer

The Alberta government is extending funding for a pilot project in Red Deer to help protect domestic violence victims.

“After listening to the concerns of the women participating in the pilot project, I made the decision this weekend to extend the pilot project until after a review of the findings expected this summer,” said Jonathan Denis, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.

The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter will use the funding to assist high risk domestic violence victims. Support for victims can include a small GPS device that when activated connects directly to 911 and gives the police its location, as well as a comprehensive safety plan.

The organization has been contacted and details of the funding extension are being confirmed.
